LinkedIn is such a powerful tool in job searching and connecting to others these days. It’s a great way to stay in touch with your network and follow the top contributors in the industry you’re interested in. But is the way we’re using it aligning with our goals?
I decided to look at my own LinkedIn Data, and see where I need to put more effort in. You can request a copy of your LinkedIn data from the Data Privacy Section in the Settings Menu.
I mostly don’t post so I mostly focused on connections and messages. And I’m going to be using Tableau for this project.
I started out by looking at the connections I’ve been making over time:

It looks like I’ve been doing OK in terms of making connections since Feb 2023.
Next I’m going to look at the Job Titles my connections hold to see if I’m connecting with the right people.

It’s not bad but it’s hard to look at all the job titles at once and be able to get insights from it. So I’m going to group relevant job titles together into fields of work. I’m looking for a Job in Data Science so I expect most of my connections to either be in Data Science or Recruiting.

It definitely looks like I’m going in the right direction with most of connections working in Data Science followed by HR/Recruiting.
The next thing I’m going to take a look at is where most of my connections work to see if it matches the places I’m interested in working at.

I think that’s an accurate representation of where my interests lie.
So what do I need to improve on? Well the lack of posts is definitely one, I’m going to also look at my messages;

It looks like we need some major improvement here! Most of connections I’m barely talking to and the ones I’m talking to the most aren’t necessarily going to be helpful in reaching my goal. (I left names out for the sake of their privacy).
Here’s a quick little Dashboard I pulled together and a link to it on my Tableau Public account.
